Speaking during Cultural Gallery event at Yei Freedom Square on Saturday, Cyrus said the day will honor rich culture of different ethnic groups in Yei in a manner that promotes unity, and national cohesion.
“We have registered conflicts with those who invade us and enforce their own ideology upon our grandparents. There were records of fierce battles to resist such enemies but not against ourselves in our various tribes and ethnic group,” said Kanyikwa.
Kanyikwa underscored the importance role cultures can play in maintaining peace and coexistence among different communities.
“The launching and celebration of this event day is a reminder to the people of Yei and the country at large of the important and the value of cultures that have long being instrumental to building peaceful coexistence among communities and maintaining durable peace,” said Kanyikwa.
He said the day will allow the people of Yei to exhibit their cultures through songs and dance.
“I appreciate those tribes that were selected from all over South Sudan to celebrate this occasion to uphold Saturday of every week to be a tradition dance day in Yei River County. This remind the future generations that our cultures are instruments of peace not violence among over selves,” he said.
