JUBA (RADIO TAMAZUJ) – The commissioner of Tonj North County in Warrap State on Friday said armed youth believed to be from Mayom County of Unity state killed two people and wounded two others in the Lou Ariik Mawien area on Thursday.

Commissioner Kuol Akoon Kuol told radio Tamazuj that the first fighting took place at 3 pm and another clash occurred at 5 am on the same day.

“The security situation of Tonj North County is fine only that yesterday (Thursday) armed youth from Unity State attacked the cattle herders at Lou Ariik and killed two people and injured two others at 3 am local time and the injured arrived Kuajok this (Friday) morning and they proceed to Wau for medical attention,” he said.

He added: “Another incident occurred the same day at 5 pm and numerous cattle were raided and I do not know the details of the casualties and cattle taken because the area lacks communication network.”

For his part, David Jigjor, the Unity State acting minister of information, said there is relative peace along the borders with Ruweng, Abyei, and Warrap State and those incidents are isolated cases caused by criminals.

“The situation is okay, it is calm. As you know, the national government has formed a high-level committee to come and investigate the Ruweng-Unity State incident,” Jigjor said. “For Warrap State and Abyei, we are fine and those who attacked and raided cattle may be from cattle camps in Bul, Makien Payam of Mayom County, but we are investigating this and if we get more information, then we will update you.”
