JUBA – Police authorities in Warrap State have detained three men suspected of shooting dead a man in Panthou Payam of Aweil South County in neighboring Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

The suspects allegedly shot a young man at night while he was returning home from the market before fleeing the scene.

The man reportedly died instantly.

Abdallah Deng, the police director of Gogrial West County in Warrap state, told Sudans Post on Tuesday that they had transferred the three men to the authorities of Northern Bahr El Gazal in connection to the incident where the victim was fatally shot.

Deng emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations with Aweil, mentioning the proximity of Gogrial West County to Aweil and the desire to collaborate on investigations.

“We have a good relationship with the people of Aweil as neighbors. Gogrial West is close to them, they are our friends, and that’s why we handed over the men to them. The investigations will reveal the motive behind the young man’s killing,” Deng explained.

He highlighted their commitment to cooperation in apprehending criminals and ensuring shared efforts in law enforcement.

The Paramount Chief of Aweil South County, Mr. Akol Ayom Wek, confirmed the report, expressing relief that the suspects were brought to Aweil to aid in establishing the facts surrounding the killing.

“This is a positive step taken by authorities of Gogrial West, and we commend them for it. If we continue in this collaborative manner, it will be beneficial,” he told Sudans Post.

“Maintaining this network is crucial, and it facilitated our delivery of information to them regarding the incident on the 26th,” he added.

Incidents like killings and cattle thefts have been occurring between areas neighboring Aweil and Warrap.

Authorities stress the need for concerted efforts to address such criminal activities.
