In a statement, Bior said the attack was launched on Sunday morning by the rebel group with the use of heavy weapons including heavy machine and light machine guns resulting in the killing of several civilians including women and children.
“This morning, reports have reached BCYA that the cattle-keeping Dinka Bor IDPs have been attacked by the NAS rebels in Eastern Equatoria State. The highly coordinated attack on the IDPs was carried out with heavy weapons such as RPGs, PKM machine guns, and some light weapons,” Dr. Bior said.
“During the attack, five IDPs have been murdered and unconfirmed number of women and children have been scattered into the bushes where the rebels are continuously hunting them down,” the statement added.
The community leader further called on the government of South Sudan in Juba to send in forces to the site of IDPs to protect them from what he calls continued attack from the rebel National Salvation Front of General Thomas Cirilo Swaka.
“We call upon the government of South Sudan to send in a force to protect the IDPs. Attacking IDPs is a crime against humanity and NAS leaders must be held to account for this blatant war crime,” he said, adding that the group is preparing to brief the public.
“The Bor Community Youth Association (BCYA) is gathering more information and will comprehensively brief the public in due course.”
A classic trend. The so called cattle keepers invades crop farms and areas of crop farming communities – killing, raping and looting whoever and whatever they lay their hands on. When the invaded farming community dare to defend themselves, they are branded as Thomas Cirillo`s or IO rebels. This is what usually happens in WBGS. In South Sudan, we have a long way to go.
