JUBA – At least seven people were killed on Saturday afternoon and three others injured in an attack carried out by armed men in Torit County of Eastern Equatoria state.

Speaking during a parliamentary sitting on Monday, Samuel B. Lotti, a lawmaker representing Torit County in the transitional parliament in Juba said the incident occurred in Torit County at 3:00 PM over the weekend.

“On Saturday at 3 pm when the weather was as rainy as it is now, my people in Lyrie Paym of Torit County were surprised and got attacked by a huge number of armed men killing 7 people who up to date are still lying unburied,” Lotti said.

Lotti said those killed included Two of them are women and one 12-year-old child.

“Two of them are women and one 12-year-old child and four men and three more injured, two women and one gentleman and only one survive,” he said.

The lawmaker said the same assailant Sunday afternoon also attacked again Agoro market, saying that they are still waiting for causalities.

“Unfortunately, this continued without any interference or intervention from our security organs and they were just less than 40 km away.”

Last month, more than 230 people were killed in ethnic clashes in the south of the country.

The fighting over cattle and grazing fields occurred in the Eastern Equatorial state early this month.

The killings happened in Kapoeta North County, where rival communities clashed following cattle raids in one of the villages.

Those killed included a local chief who was shot as mourners gathered to bury those who died in the violence.
