JUBA, OCTOBER 15, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – At least seven people have been killed and two others are wounded following a car accident in Rock City of South Sudan’s capital Juba, police authorities and eyewitnesses say.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when a V8 car overran a young lady selling fruits and a number of boda-boda riders along with a female tea vendor.
“Yes, we have that information that a driver overrun a girl selling fruit, boda-boda riders and a woman in Rock City exactly near Jur River Gas station and now the investigation is ongoing,” police spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin said this morning.
He said that the driver had tried to resist arrest as he threatened to shoot police men with gun but was eventually arrested and then taken to Kobri Haboba and where investigations are currently taking place to establish the reasons behind his actions.
“He has not denied any wrongdoing after he was arrested. But he threatened to shoot people including the police but after all he was arrested and now, he is being held at Kobri Haboba police station and inventions as I said are ongoing and I can’t comment beyond that.”
The traffic accident in Rock City is just one example of the many traffic accidents that occur in Juba on a regular basis.
The factors that contribute to these accidents are complex, but they include poor road conditions, reckless driving, overcrowding, and a lack of traffic enforcement.
