KHARTOUM, MAY 17, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The head of Sudan’s army and president of the country’s Transitional Sovereign Council General Abdelfattah Abdelrahman al-Burhan on Wednesday appeared in a footage visiting forces located outside the general army headquarters in Khartoum.

In the video published by the official Facebook page of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), General Al-Burhan was seen holding a weapon similar to AK47 and could be seen greeting dozens of soldiers one of which kissed his head just outside the land forces’ building.

The appearance of Al-Burhan around the military headquarters – an area which has recently witnessed deadly fighting after several attempts to control it by the Rapid Support Forces – signals that the fighting is moving away from central Khartoum.

The top military commander’s appearance also comes as fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) entered its second month with calls from the international and regional community to stop the fighting.

Despite declaration of several ceasefire agreements by the parties, fighting continues in the capital and other towns such as the capital of Northern Kordofan State el-Obeid, and Southern Darfur State’s capital Nyala where the RSF has heavy presence.

Over the weekend, the Sudanese parties signed a pledge in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to protect civilians and to also protect the unity of country.
