JUBA – After almost two months since appointment into the country’s Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly and the Council of States, South Sudan lawmakers have now been sworn into office.

In May, President Salva Kiir Mayardit appointed 550 politicians representing various parties to the revitalized peace agreement into the R-TNLA and in July appointed 100 members to the Council of States.

However, Kiir over the weekend revoked the appointment of all members of the Other Political Parties (OPP) Peter Mayen Majongdit after disagreement within the uproar sparked by appointment of family members by Peter Mayen surfaced.

Only 504 members of the parliament representing SPLM faction under Kiir, SPLM-IO under Machar, and SSOA under Josephine Lagu, FDs, were sworn in. It remains unclear when Kiir is appointing lawmakers representing Peter Mayen Majongdit alliance into parliament.

During the swearing in ceremony administered by South Sudan’s Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut, the law makers took the following oath: “I…………………, as a Member of the National Legislative Assembly/Council of States, do hereby swear by Almighty God/ solemnly affirm/ that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Republic of South Sudan and its people; that I will obey and respect the Constitution and abide by the law; and that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge my duties and responsibilities as a member of the National Legislative Assembly/Council of States and serve the people of the Republic of South Sudan to the best of my ability, so help me God.”
