BENTIU – At least one person was killed, and 57 herds of cattle were stolen on January 4th in Riak Payam, Mayom County, Unity State. Suspected raiders from neighboring Tonj North County in Warrap state are allegedly responsible.
Bidong Manyliem, acting county commissioner of Mayom, condemned the attack and confirmed the incident to Sudans Post on Tuesday.
“Our neighbors from Tonj North county raided 57 cattle and killed the owner,” he said.
Manyliem emphasized his commitment to a peaceful resolution, stating that he has already informed state authorities in Bentiu.
“We are not retaliating,” he stressed. “We trust the state government to use peaceful means to return the stolen cattle and prevent further bloodshed between the communities.”
His statement raised concerns about a potential rise in criminal activity along the border between Mayom and Tonj North.
“People are being targeted by unidentified assailants,” Manyliem acknowledged, highlighting the need for increased security measures in the area.
these are Thieves who steal 57 cows. in last year, about 19000 cows were raided by White Army and militants allies in Tonj North communities but this year, the North communities have all rights to go to up to Mayom county if they wanted. the outgoing commissioner of Mayom county did nothing at all. why complaining about 57 cows while, 19000 were raided by your people last year? Tonj communities must go to Mayom county and gets their cows.
