Central Equatoria governor names first female mayor for Juba city

She is the first female official to take up the position

JUBA, OCTOBER 6, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The governor of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, on Friday night issued a gubernatorial decree naming a local female politician as the new mayor of Juba City.

In the decree broadcasted on local television and radio Equatoria Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), Adil named Flora Gabriel Modi as the mayor of Juba City.

She replaces Emmanuel Khamis Richard who was removed last month after slapping a female street hawker, sparking a public uproar.

She is the first female official to take up the position. Prior to her appointment, Flora was the Commissioner-General of Central Equatoria State Investment Authority.

Adil also appointed Mogga Franco Wani as the first deputy mayor for administration and finance, Thiik Thiik Mayardit as second deputy mayor for social services and Juma Diyo as the third deputy mayor for environment and waste management.

The governor also appointed Elizabeth Sarah Doa Zozimo as an advisor to the leadership of Juba City Council

OTHER DECREES

In separate decrees, Anthony dismissed Moro Issac Jenesio as the state minister of local government and law enforcement. He dismissed Rufas Juka Samuel from his position as the Coordinator of Wonduruba Administrative Payam.

He also fired Stella Felix from her Position as the Executive Director of the State Anti-Corruption Commission and also removed Dwoki Moses Ismail as the Executive Director of the State Investment Authority/Corporation.

He went on to dismiss Peris Kaji Kenyi Elia from her position as a member of state insurance regulatory authority and Richard Lokosang from his position as the state director general of state ministry of finance, planning, and investment.

He also dismissed Mogga Franco Wani from his position as the director general, state ministry of general education and instruction. Adil also revoked the appointment of Eliaba Loro Gala from his position as the technical advisor in the state ministry of finance, planning and investment.

Governor Emmanuel Adil further appointed George Pitia Stephen as the new Commissioner General of the State Investment Authority/Corporation to replace Flora who has been appointed as the mayor of Juba City.

He appointed Towongo Stephen Michael as the coordinator of Wonduruba payam, Rufas Juka Samuel as the executive director of the state anti-corruption commission, Stella Felix as the executive director of the state investment authority/corporation.

He appointed William Tombe Kalisto as member of the state insurance regulatory authority, Chandiga Emmanuel as the director general of the state ministry of finance, planning and investment and Luate James as the director general, state ministry of general education and instruction.

Adil also appointed Eliaba Loro Gala as the technical advisor for planning for the state ministry of finance, planning and Investment, and Richard Lokosong as the technical advisor for finance, state ministry of finance, planning and investment.

He further appointed Dwoki Moses Ismail as the technical advisor to the state investment authority/corporation.

The governor further restructured the Juba City Council to comprise of the Mayor Juba City Council, Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, Deputy Mayor for Social Services, and Deputy Mayor for Environment and Waste Management.
