JUBA – South Sudan civil society watchdog, the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), has launched a campaign to monitor the implementation of resolutions of the 6th Governors’ Forum, according to a statement extended to Sudans Post.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director Edmund Yakani, CEPO said the campaign it called “Enforce Governors’ Forum” will focus on resolution number 14 which provides for respect of freedom of expression and calls for tolerance of criticism by government officials.
“Today CEPO is launching a campaign called ‘Enforce Governors Forum Resolution 14,’” the statement released on Wednesday morning reads in part.
“This campaign will aim at ensuring that resolution 14 is enforce because resolution 14 is an instrument of check and balance for political commitment to implement the Governors forum in inclusive, genuine and transparent manner,” it added.
The watchdog further called on the political leaders and security agencies in the state to enforce and respect the resolutions of the 6th Governors’ Forum warning that CEPO’s Civic Watch initiative, which also monitors peace implementation, will release a report against non-compliance.
“Finally, CEPO is urging the political and security agencies to honor and enforce the 6th Governors Forum Resolution 14 together with the presidency instructions to Governors, Chief Administrators and county commissioners dated 20th November, 2022 on opening of political and civic space,” the statement said.
“CEPO Civic Watch initiative will release report in violation of the Governors forum resolution 14 and presidency instructions dated 20 November 2022,” it added.
