Chinese worker, SSPDF soldier shot dead at road construction site in Juba

JUBA — A Chinese construction worker and a South Sudan army soldier were this morning shot dead by an unknown assailant outside the capital Juba, according to the police spokesman.

General Daniel Justin, the police spokesman, told Sudans Post this afternoon that the incident occurred at 10:00AM when an unidentified gunman shot at a vehicle in which the unidentified Chinese national was driving killing him and a South Sudanese army soldier working for Tiger Battalion.

“The incident occurred this morning at 10. There were only two people in the car and one person is a Chinese who was the driver and another South Sudanese army soldier from Tiger,” he said in Juba this afternoon.

“No one saw the assailant and they instantly died after they were shot dead. The incident exactly took place at Jebel Lado while they were heading to the road construction site,” he added.

The latest security incident occurred one one after government authorities in Central Equatoria state said a group of armed men had kidnapped nine people and were demanding 45 million South Sudanese pounds as ransom.

The kidnapped civilians were later on released with some paying less amount for their release.
