JUBA, JUNE 26, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Chollo King, His Majesty Kwongo Padiet, on Saturday called on prominent leaders from the Chollo Kingdom Lam Akol, Pagan Amum and Oyai Deng Ajak to return to Juba and join President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

In his speech during the honoring of General Johnson Olony Thabo, the leader of the Agwelek Forces turned South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) commander, Padiet said he wants all Chollo “sons and daughters” to support President Salva Kiir for peace.

“I Rath Kwongo Padiet do hereby appeal to our sons, particularly Pagan Amum, Oyay Deng Ajak, and Dr. Lam Akol, to come back and join the peace process,” he told hundreds of people who attended the event in Juba on Saturday.

Lam is the leader of the opposition National Democratic Movement (NDM) and officials allied to him told Sudans Post on Sunday that he has left the Sudanese capital Khartoum for Ethiopia where he will stay for a while before returning to South Sudan.

Amum and Ajak are leaders of the leader of the Real-SPLM, one of the non-signatory opposition groups that makes up the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) that is negotiating with the government of President Salva Kiir in Rome.

For his part, Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi who is representing the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) in the presidency thank the King for his calls on the prominent opposition leaders, saying the call for all to join Kiir is genuine.

“We appreciate the King for all his steps to ensure peace in Upper Nile. His call on Pagan Amun, Oyai Deng Aja, and Dr. Lam Akol to join President Salva Kiir in Juba for peace is a good call,” he said.
