JUBA – South Sudan’s minister of information Michael Makuei Lueth is no longer in the Kenyan capital Nairobi as reported earlier by Sudans Post, but has returned to the country last Sunday, the minister confirmed Friday.

On Thursday, a community source with direct knowledge of Makuei’s Nairobi visit said the information minister is still in Nairobi after being referred to a Kenyan doctor for a heart condition.

“He is here in Nairobi and he is being treated for a heart condition. He has been suffering from the heart issue for a very long time but it is okay and is recovering and soon he will return to Juba,” the source said Thursday.

Sudans Post also decided to reach out to the ministry, but was told that “the minister has been outside the country on personal capacity,” and the information ministry official refused to give further comments on the matter.

Speaking to Sudans Post in an interview on Friday, Makuei said he is doing his normal duties at the ministry and is not in Nairobi, but admitted he was outside the country for a family visit.

“I was outside the country for a family visit and returned to the country on Sunday, but now I am normally doing my normal activities in the ministry. If you come tomorrow, you will find me here, he said.

The senior government official however declined to confirm or deny if he was ever admitted to hospital while outside the country telling Sudans Post that ‘is none of your business.”
