On Wednesday, a delegation led by Digitel’s manager, Thiep Ngor, met with Governor Simon Ober Mawut to strategize the installation of telecom equipment in the state.
A source from the Ministry of Information and Communication described the meeting as fruitful, expressing optimism about its outcomes.
“The governor assured Digitel’s delegation that they could proceed with installing their equipment to bridge the digital gap,” the source said. “This is good news for all of us here, and we will do what is necessary to support network users.”
Governor Mawut reportedly granted Digitel’s request to commence operations, paving the way for improved connectivity.
Residents near Sudan’s Southern Kordofan and Darfur states have long complained about limited network coverage.
Currently, only Zain and MTN operate in the region, with subscribers frequently citing poor service quality.
Some residents have expressed nostalgia for Vivacell, a network that previously clashed with the government, leading to its shutdown.
It remains to be seen how quickly Digitel’s plans will take effect.
