Eastern Equatoria, Pibor seek to end cattle raids

JUBA – South Sudan’s Governor of Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore and Chief Administrator of Pibor Administrative Area, Lokole Ame, on Sunday discuss possible ways of ending cattle raids that often result in deaths of innocent civilians.

Upon arrival at Pibor Administrative Area on Sunday, Lobong discussed with his counterpart, Lokole ways to restore peace and unity between Toposa and Murle.

In recent months, Toposa and Murle have engaged in violence which was brought about by cattle raids and theft.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, Aliandro Lotok Paul, Press Secretary in of Office of  Governor of Eastern Equatoria said the two leaders discussed way to strengthen the relations between the two sisterly sisters.

“The two communities should co-exist peacefully and accept each other and they should not cause conflict,” Lotok told Sudans Post on phone interview this morning.

Lotok said two leaders urged the two communities of to refrained cattle rustling and embrace peace.

“It is true that there might be elements who want to destabilize the relations between the two communities but as their leaders, they are here to rein on their communities and talk to them to accept each other,” he said.

Lokot said two leaders agreed to allow their communities to graze their cattle on Murle land.

“Toposa who are moving to Murle area have been allowed to graze their animals in peace and live in harmony with local communities of Murle and Jie and they should not allow criminals to destabilize their relations,” he said.

Chief Administrative of Pibor, Lokole Ame vowed to cooperate with his counterpart to restore stability and peaceful co-existence between two communities.

“As leaders, we are committed to resolve dispute among our people so that they will live in peace with one another,” Lokole said.
