AWEIL – The Episcopal Church of South Sudan has handed over a newly constructed secondary school to Northern Bahr el Ghazal State government.
A collaboration between the Diocese of Aweil led by Bishop Abraham Yel and the state government saw the construction of St. Mary Girls’ secondary school.
Speaking during the handover event, Yel lauded government for donating land.
“We are grateful for the spirit shown by the state leadership by giving us the land where we have constructed St. Mary Girls’ Secondary school which will be accessible to students in and around this state and easier for them to learn”, said Yel.
“As a church, we can contribute to the development of the country in different aspects, one of which is schooling and health apart from preaching the word of God. We would appreciate if enough land is given to us so that school with modern facilities are constructed to accommodate more students”, he added.
For his part, the state governor Tong Aken Ngor lauded the pivotal played by the church and urged them to do more in order to reach to the wider society.
He said churches immensely contribute to promoting peace and reconciliation.
“I want to appreciate the church on behalf of the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, government and churches for helping promote peace, reconciliation, unity and provision of education services to vulnerable communities”, said Ngor.
He encourages communities to ensure children benefit from the new school.
Ngor instructed the Land, Housing and Utilities ministry to allocate more land for schools.
The event was graced by Education ministry officials, state authorities and partners.
