AWEIL – A fire outbreak at Aroyo market in Aweil Center county of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr El Gazal State destroyed more than 100 shops, a local official said.

“We woke early in the morning and got bad news when fire consumed all shops in Aroyo market and now is a huge destruction. It happened when a woman lit the fire and it accidentally spread to the other shops which burnt the shops and properties” said Peter Natale, the commissioner of Aweil Center county.

He identified the culprit as Amina Andrea, a 26-year tea vendor.

Natale said a committee has been formed to assess losses caused by fire.

“It is something very bad and this woman will be arraigned in court. I set have up a committee to count all losses and value each property loss,” he stressed.

The commissioner cautioned the public against misuse of fire.
