YAMBIO, OCTOBER 1, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The governor of Western Equatoria State Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba has accused politicians he didn’t name of stealing mattresses and blankets meant for the patients at the Yambio State Hospital because they are jealous of his government’s performance.

Futuyo who was speaking during a handover ceremony of a solar water point in the capital Yambio on Friday said the thieves broke into the state hospital and stole things such as mattresses, solar with its batteries and a water tank.

“You are stealing God; you are not stealing from me. They have stolen all the mattresses in the hospital including solar with its batteries and water tank and they have children when they get sick, they will be taken to the hospital, is it not a shame to us,” said Futuyo.

According to the governor, the stolen equipment were bought by his office with support from traders.

“When we came to the government, we found Yambio Hospital dirty and all of us including traders in the market, we bought mattresses and we cleaned the hospital,” he said.

“We also supplied the hospital with enough drugs, and we built the hospital very well and sick people were able to come to the hospital and they are admitted in good environment,” Futuyo added, before accusing politicians of being behind what he called “shameful acts.”

Futuyo warned politicians against destroying service delivery means as elections is coming.

“Nobody came from Rumbek to steal the equipment and nobody came from Juba to break into the hospital, it is us the people of Western Equatoria who destroyed our hospital and what if our children get sick, where do we take them? Is this politics or killing of people?” he asked.

“I want to tell us that these civilians are very important to us, and the election is coming and you have sent people to go and destroy the hospital. You are known. Don’t say we don’t know you, we know you?” he continued.

He claimed that “jealous politicians” behind the theft of the hospital properties are those who don’t wish him and his government well.

“Now something bad happened, we the residents of Yambio have stolen everything from the hospital and do we really care about the lives of others? The equipment was stolen because they are saying why it happened during my time and during their time. They don’t want people to praise me.”
