JUBA, FEBRUARY 3rd 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The leader of the breakaway South Sudan main armed opposition SPLM-IO Kitgwang faction Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual has condemned in a statement yesterday’s attack on Kajo-keji County of central Equatoria state.
Armed cattle herders at dawn on Thursday attacked villages a Lire Payam of Kajo-keji County killing at least 21 innocent civilians after suspected rebels belonging to National Salvation Front (NAS) attacked a cattle camp killing six people as well as a number of cattle.
In a statement, Gatwech condemned the attack and described it as a “shameful and undignified act done to our people, the pride of our Nation and to Humanity in general.”
“The leadership of the SPLM/A-IO Kitgwang learn with consternation the senseless and brutal killing of innocent people today morning in Kajo-Keji county of Central Equatoria State by the government supported armed cattle herders,” he said in the statement signed by his press secretary.
“The people South Sudan and general public are saddened and shocked by such a tragedy incident that happen at the time when the country is craving for peaceful atmosphere for the visit of Pope Francis and other faith leaders,” he added.
He called on the international community to take measures to identify government roles in the escalating ethnic violence in the world’s youngest country, and further expanded his condolences to the families.
“SPLM/A-IO Kitgwang, adamantly calls the attention of the region and international community to take swift measures to identify the elements of the regime in Juba who are funding the flame of communal violence between the local communities across the country,” he said.
“The SPLM/A-IO Kitgwang conveys its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to all bereaved families who lost their love ones in the tragedy and dedicate our prayers for speedy recovery to those innocent injuries,” the statement added.
