JUBA – The governor of Western Equatoria State Gen. Alfred Futuyo has invited residents of the politically unstable state to a public rally he will organize on Saturday in the capital Yambio in which he will address the citizens about the ongoing political disagreements in the state.

In a statement addressed to members of the public, NGOs, peace partners and civil servants as well as civil society organizations, the Western Equatoria State government said the rally will be conducted at 9:00AM at Freedom Square in Yambio.

“Please, the General public, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) Peace Partners, Civil Servants in Yambio that, The Hon. Governor of Western Equatoria is inviting you to attend Peace Rally scheduled to take place tomorrow Saturday the 15th October, 2022 at 9:00 AM, at Yambio Freedom Square,” the statement said.

‘ILLEGAL POLITICAL MEETINGS’ BANNED

The governor in an order separately banned any political gathering which has not been approved by the National Security Service (NSS), saying the ban, which is widely criticized, comes into force immediately after the signature and the publication of the order by the governor.

“This order may be cited as site order No. 15/2022 for banning illegal meetings being held by the politicians in the residential areas without permission from the National Security Office and shall come into force upon the date of its signature,” the order reads in part.

According to the controversial governor, the order will protect the tense political situation in the state from spiraling out of control and urged other political groups such as the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Government (SPLM-IG) to cooperate.
