JUBA – South Sudan’s 6th Governors Forum concluded on Wednesday in the country’s capital Juba with calls for the central government to expeditiously deploy the Necessary Unified Forces (NUF) which have already been graduated, according to a communique seen by Sudans Post.
In the 10-page document, the forum indicated that some insecurity hotspots in the country need to be secured by deploying the graduated unified forces and called on the government to complete the training of the forces in phase two of the security arrangements.
“[The forum urges the government to] expedite the deployment of the graduated unified forces to hotspots across the country; and complete the training, graduation and deployment of remaining unified forces,” the communique reads in part.
“[We also want the government to] deploy the graduated unified forces to the border areas such as Bira, Nadapal, Ngomoromo, Lasu Kajokeji, Akobo, Pagak, Kolorow, Panakuach, Loelle, Jaw, Raad, Pochalla, Awawa, Nasir Morobo, Elemi triangle, and Raga,” it added.
The communique further called for the implementation of the DDR process and called on the government in Juba to “punish those in uniform found participating in communal conflicts” and called “on the UN to upgrade UNISFA to a full UN mission to provide services to the population.”
The called for the settlement on the final status of the Abyei region and “resolve internal borders issues between Ngok Dinka and Twic Dinka as well as between Ruweng and Unity State as per 1 January 1956 border.”
