JUBA, JANUARY 29th 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The government on Friday approved at least 315 percent increase in salary of public university lecturers, according to the vice-chancellor of the University of Juba Prof. John Akec.

In a statement posted on his social media Twitter handle, Akec said the increase was approved in a cabinet meeting on Friday and thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit, his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny and Vice President Hussein Abdelbaggi for supporting the salary increment for academic staff.

“The South Sudan’s Council of Ministers has just approved a 315% increase of salaries for staff of public universities,” he said.

“We are grateful to H.E President of the Republic, H.E VP Riek Machar, H.E VP Hussein Abdelbaggi and members of the Council for support,” he added.

South Sudan lecturers before the devaluation of the local currency in 2015 used to receive at least 7,000 dollars a month.

This amount has vanished to a few hundred dollars as devaluation of the local currency has continued.
