Gov’t security forces detain civil society activist in Bor

South Sudan government security forces in the country’s Jonglei State on Monday morning arrested and detained the Chairperson of Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN) and Executive Director of INTREPID South Sudan (ISS) Bol Deng Bol, according to the JCSN secretary-general Isaiah Kuch.

JUBA – South Sudan government security forces in the country’s Jonglei State on Monday morning arrested and detained the Chairperson of Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN) and Executive Director of INTREPID South Sudan (ISS) Bol Deng Bol, according to the JCSN secretary-general Isaiah Kuch.

Speaking to Sudans Post moments ago, Kuch said Deng was arrested and taken away by a join police and National Security Service (NSS) force carrying out a demolition exercise in Bor town this morning and was taken to a police station where he is not currently in.

“There was a demolition exercise in Bor town. Bol Deng happened to be in the market and he was arrested. Those who arrested him are a join force of the police and the National Security Service and he was taken away,” he said.

The activist said that he and some of his activists colleagues went to see Deng in the police station where he was being kept and to their surprise, they were told that he was not there and have since continued to look for him.

“I and some of my colleagues have gone to the police station where he was supposed to be kept but to our surprise he is not there. He is being kept in a place which is unknown to us because the authorities cannot tell us the place he is being detained,” he said.

The local activist further said that they are heading to the office of the deputy and acting governor of Jonglei State in order to raise the issue for the government to declare his whereabouts and release him since there is not charges against him.

“There is no arrest warrant against him and there is no crime that he has committed, so they should release him immediately. I am on my way going to the office of the acting governor in order to talk to him that he should be released,” he added.
