Michael Mathiang, the cultural and educational attaché at the South Sudanese embassy in Cairo, revealed to Sudans Post during an interview that 377 students were completing their studies at Cairo University and its Khartoum Branch, with an additional 136 students graduating from Ain Shams University.
“This year, nearly 400 South Sudanese students, precisely 377, are graduating from two esteemed institutions: Cairo University and its Khartoum Branch,” he stated, while speaking to Sudans Post during the student’s Photo Day held in Helwan, a suburb of the Egyptian capital, on Saturday.
Mathiang noted that approximately 136 students were also concluding their studies at Ain Shams University and anticipates further graduations from other universities yet to conduct their photo days.
He added that a grand graduation ceremony is scheduled for late August, graced by the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Gabriel Changson Chang.
“In addition to the 136 students graduating from Ain Shams University, several other universities are yet to hold their Fun Day events, so the total number of graduates is expected to surpass the figure I’ve just mentioned,” he emphasized.
“After this process (Fun Day), the embassy will orchestrate a graduation ceremony, with the honorable Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Gabriel Changson Chang, in attendance, tentatively scheduled for August,” he further elaborated.
The diplomat conveyed appreciation for the Egyptian government’s generous provision of at least 400 scholarship opportunities for South Sudanese students.
Egypt consistently offers a minimum of 400 scholarship slots annually to South Sudanese students, leading to the graduation of hundreds of them from various esteemed public universities in Egypt each year.
