JUBA, OCTOBER 23, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The governor of South Sudan’s Lakes State Rin Tueny Mabor has said that investigation into the killing of Chairperson of Lakes State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) Dut Malual Chahoch is currently ongoing.

“The investigation is going and whoever is found responsible for the killing of Dut Malual will be held accountable,” Governor Tueny told mourners during final funeral rite conducted in Mingkaman of Awerial County.

On September 8, a watchman at the office of the RRC in Rumbek, the state capital, gunned down Malual along with the RRC finance administrator, Joseph Maker Amuom, and prison Capt. Maker Kucjo, while wounding others.

State authorities in Rumbek said at the time that the watchman had stolen a gun from a soldier identified as Magok Luony Mangok who was deployed to the RRC compound before shooting dead the victims.

The suspect was killed by security forces the following day after refusing to surrender himself to the security forces.

The slain Lakes State RRC was born on January 1, 1981, in Mingkaman of Awerial County of Lakes State. He was appointed to the position of RRC following the reconstitution of Lakes State government by President Salva Kiir Mayardit in 2021.

He was appointed by President Kiir as commissioner of the defunct Awerial South County of the defunct Eastern Lakes State in 2017. He was also the deputy SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs in Lakes State between 2018 and 2020.

He is married to two wives and has ten children from both.
