Jonglei youth body condemns killing of 3 people in Duk by suspected Murle armed men

The Duk County Youth Association in Bor town of Jonglei state in South Sudan has condemned the killing of three people in Duk by suspected armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area on Friday.

JUBA – The Duk County Youth Association in Bor town of Jonglei state in South Sudan has condemned the killing of three people in Duk by suspected armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area on Friday.

On 19 August, two women who left Pagaak Payam of Duk County fell in an ambush in Nyin Kachuol, both women were raped and shot dead.

On the same day, four businessmen fell in ambush between Patuet and Padiet in Mompiny, one person was killed, two wounded and one is still missing, and an estimated 10 cattle were raided.

“On 19th August 2021, Duk County registered three incidents of criminal activities carried out by suspected criminals from Greater Pibor Administrative Area,” said a statement issued by Duk Youth on Saturday.

“Duk Youth in Jonglei State strongly condemn this barbaric killing of innocent and vulnerable women and businessmen,” it added.

It claimed that over 50 head of cattle were raided in Karitha of Duk County by armed allegedly from Pibor last week.

“As a matter of fact, we kindly request the administration of Greater Pibor Area to return the raided cattle to their rightful owners in Duk County,” it said.

The youth stressed need for peaceful coexistence among the people of Jonglei and Pibor Administrative Area.

“The youth of Jonglei have been respecting the peace between the Jonglei and Pibor since August 2020 up to now,” it stated.

In January this, the High-Level Committee to address the security situation in restive Jonglei state and Pibor Administrative headed by Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga held a two-days peace conference in Juba.

The conference was attended by representatives from the Anyuak, Dinka, Jie, Kachipo, Murle, and Nuer.

The conference resolved to end deadly clashes among their communities.
