JUBA – South Sudan’s university of Juba has cancelled examinations after students staged protest after administration prevented many students from attending exams over tuition fees, sources said.
One student said several students were prevented by the administration to attend the exams over their failure to pay for tuition fees which has been of concerns to many students in recent years.
“Many students were prevented this morning from attending the exams because they did not pay their tuition fees,” the student who requested not to be named said.
He further said angry students entered into examination rooms by force and damaged examination papers triggering the administration to cancel the exam.
“Some students entered examination halls and then tore apart examination papers,” he said.
“Because of this, the administration of the university have decided to cancel the examination,” the student added.
Another student confirmed the protest on Facebook.
“University of Juba students protest for University’s decision by denying students that fails to pay their tuition fee full installments not to sit for exams,” one student wrote on Facebook.
He urged the government of President Salva Kiir for “intervention to give students their right.”
