JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a directive to the country’s finance ministry, instructing the immediate implementation of a new national payment system.

The order, dated Thursday, January 25, 2023, and obtained by Sudans Post, outlines specific actions to be taken by the finance ministry.

According to the directive, the finance minister is tasked with issuing financial identity cards and conducting a thorough screening of all public service pay sheets in the country.

The aim is to ensure timely salary payments for civil servants, members of the SSPDF, and other organized forces while eliminating ghost names from the national payroll.

President Kiir further instructed the Ministry of Finance to establish an independent committee responsible for verifying and investigating all national claims.

The committee is expected to propose strategies for settling these claims.

The order cites Articles 97(a) of the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan 2011 (as amended) based on recommendations from the National Ministry of Finance and Planning.

All government institutions are directed to adhere to the president’s order.
