Kiir donates $50,000 to 3 kids whose parents died in grisly highway accident

JUBA – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has donated 50,000 United States Dollars to three children who were orphaned last week after they survived a deadly accident along the Juba-Nimule highway that took away the life of their parents.

On Saturday, Dr. Gabriel Thor Koryom and his family where driving towards Uganda on the Juba-Nimule highway when they were involved in an accident killing all, but the three kids, in the car.

The incident has sparked a public outcry and President Kiir has come forward to urge the people of South Sudan to donate to the kids so as to security their future starting by himself donating $50,000.

“It is with profound sadness that I express my deep sympathies to the family of Gabriel Thor Koryom who lost his life along with his two wives and nine children on a tragic road accident on Juba-Nimule Road,” Kiir said in a statement this afternoon.

“In order to secure the future [of] these orphans, I am personally contributing $50,000 United States dollars as the seed funds for their education and urge the people of good will both inside the country and in Diaspora to add to this fund,” the president said.

The South Sudanese head of state said “the magnitude of this tragedy is beyond human comprehension. All we are left with are questions whose answers could only be found in God’s infinite and redeeming power.”

“Given the enormity of this tragedy, I am calling upon South Sudanese across the globe to stand in solidarity with this family and their relatives, specifically the three children who survived this heartbreaking accident. Let us all provide these children with emotional and material support,” Kiir’s statement adds.

He added: “At the government level, my office will work with the Ministries of Interior and Transport to find ways of ensuring that accidents of this nature are prevented.”

“As we mourn the tragedy that has befallen this family, let us stand in solidarity with their relatives and the entire Mayom community and pray that God will give them inner strengthen to help them cope with this tragedy.”
