Kiir pledges support for floods-affected Greater Bahr el Ghazal residents

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has pledged to provide support to the floods-affected people of the country's Greater Bahr el Ghazal region, according to a statement by the presidency.

JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has pledged to provide support to the floods-affected people of the country’s Greater Bahr el Ghazal region, according to a statement by the presidency.

This comes in a meeting between the president and Vice President Hussein Abdelbaggi Akol who went to brief the president in his office about his recent trip to some parts of Bahr el Ghazal region.

“His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic met in his Office, with the Vice President for Services Delivery Cluster H.E. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol who briefed him on his recent visit to Greater Bahr el Ghazal region,” the presidency said in a statement.

The statement said the South Sudanese head of state “was told by the Vice President that the people of Greater Bahr el Ghazal region that have been affected by the floods are in dire need of basic services.”

Hussein who is a vice president representing South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) briefed Kiir “on the progress of security arrangements in the areas of Greater Bahr el Ghazal prior to the graduation of the unified forces.

For his part, President Salva Kiir said, according to the statement, that he “will make directives to provide support to the people that have been affected by the floods.”
