JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday received and signed into law the national fiscal budget for 2022-2023 as well as amendment financial bills which were passed by the parliament recently.

Lawmakers in the transitional legislature on September 27 passed a SSP1.4 trillion 2022-2023 fiscal budget.

The speaker of parliament Jemma Nunu Kumba met President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday and handed over the budget and the financial bills to him for signing into law.

“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday received the fiscal year 2022/2023 budget, and assented into laws the Appropriation and Financial Bills passed by the Parliament,” the presidency said in a statement.

“The National Budget and the Bills were presented to the President by Right Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba, Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly,” the statement by the presidency added.

Speaking to journalists following the meeting between Kiir and Kumba, lawmaker Changkuoth Bichok Reth, the chairperson of specialized committee on finance and economic planning in parliament said “the Parliament had passed the fiscal year budget of 1.4 trillion South Sudanese Pounds for the fiscal year 2022/2023.”

“The Budget will stimulate economic recovery and other sectors,” added the lawmaker.
