JUBA, AUGUST 30, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit is set to travel to Russia in September for bilateral talks with his counterpart, President Vladimir Putin.

The announcement was made by the country’s acting foreign minister Deng Dau Deng, who met with the non-resident Russian ambassador to South Sudan Vladlen Semivolos on Wednesday.

The two discussed the upcoming visit and explored the prospects of various bilateral collaborations between South Sudan and Russia.

“This morning, the Acting Minister, Hon. Deng Dau Malek, met with the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Russian Federation to South Sudan, H.E. Ambassador Vladlen Semivolos,” said foreign ministry spokesman Denis Dumo.

“The visit of H.E. the Ambassador is very important to prepare the state visit of his Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, to the Russian Federation next month,” he added.

The visit is seen as an opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their ties and discuss areas of cooperation, such as trade, investment, and security.

During his visit, Kiir is also expected to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in September.
