JUBA, AUGUST 19, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this morning travelled to the Kenyan capital Nairobi for talks with President William Ruto, according to a statement by the presidency.

The country’s acting foreign minister Deng Dau said in statements at Juba International Airport before the president’s departure that Kiir will “discuss trade, transport and security management along their common borders.”

“They would also discuss regional peace and security, particularly the crisis in Sudan and the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. We are committed to working together to promote peace and stability in the region,” Malek said.

Kiir was seen off at the airport by First Vice President Riek Machar and was accompanied to Kenya by senior government officials including presidential minister Barnaba Marial, acting foreign minister Deng Dau, cabinet minister Martin Elia Lomuro, and transport minister Madut Biar.

Kenya is a key regional partner for South Sudan. The two countries have strong economic ties, and Kenya has been a major supporter of South Sudan’s peace process.

The visit, the first for Kiir since election of William Ruto last year as Kenyan president, is seen as an opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their cooperation and work together to address the challenges facing the region.

Kenya is the neighbouring nation to South Sudan that has historically negotiated before the Sudanese accords between late Garang and former president Bashiir, who is wanted by ICC. With reference to that, Kenya remains a friend to Sudanese people in general whether South or North and that was why he got appointed by IGAG led_peace process in concern to matter of Khartoum.

The move was rejected by government of the Republic of Sudan under Mr. Burhani the current Military Supreme leader of Sudan. Salva Kiir was implicated by Sudan to negotiate their matters, a point rejected by IGAD leaders. As I mentioned before in my writings that South Sudan problem remains Sudanese problem and Sudanese problem also remain South Sudan problem, why? It is because they are
sharing the oil revenue together that passed through Sudan port to the international market.
That is the pressure where Salva Kiir fall underneath.

With that category Salva Kiir has realized the danger of Sudan war and that is one of the reason he is now trying to make credible trade relation with counterpart, Kenya.

    Thanks.
