JUBA, SEPTEMBER 14, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday morning left the capital Juba heading to the Ugandan capital Kampala for talks with President Yoweri Museveni, his office says.

Kiir, according to the presidency statement seen by Sudans Post, is expected to hold talks with Museveni on bilateral relations between Juba and Kampala and the two men will also discuss the ongoing conflicts in Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.

“President Kiir traveled to Uganda this morning on a one-day State Visit where he will hold talks with President Yoweri Museveni on bilateral relations and regional peace,” the presidency statement reads in part.

“The two leaders will also discuss regional peace and security, particularly the crisis in Sudan and the Eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo,” it added.

According to South Sudan’s presidential affairs minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Kiir will also discuss with Museveni the status of implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

He was seen off at Juba International Airport by First Vice President and leader of the main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) which is an important partner in the peace implementation process.
