JUBA, JUNE 19, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed strong desire for development of diplomatic relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, according to Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

On Wednesday last week, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un dispatched a new non-resident ambassador of his country to South Sudan.

According to the KCNA, Ambassador Sim Tong Guk is the new non-resident ambassador of North Korea to South Sudan and presented his credential to Kiir at the statehouse J1 and “conveyed greetings of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), to South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit.”

South Sudan and North Korea established diplomatic relations in 2011, just months after South Sudan gained independence from neighboring Sudan but has not had any embassy or consulate in the world’s youngest country.

South Sudan does not also have any embassy in North Korea.

According to the KCNA, President Salva Kiir Mayardit “expressed his deep gratitude for this and asked the ambassador to convey his sincere best wishes to Kim Jong Un” and expressed strong wish “to develop the bilateral relations of friendship through cooperation with the DPRK.”
