This comes after President Kiir said during the closing session of the 5th Governors’ Forum on Monday that the arms embargo was delaying the graduation of the unified forces and the entire security arrangements because the forces do not have gun that would make them an army.
But in an interview with Sudans Post this afternoon, Dut Majokdit, member of the SPLM-IO National Liberation Council and close ally to First Vice President Machar, said the assertion by the president was just a delaying tactics saying the arms embargo shouldn’t be an excuse to delay the peace implementation.
“We call for full implementation of the security arrangements. The arms embargo shouldn’t be an excuse to delay the graduation of the Unified Forces as provided for in the revitalized peace agreement,” Majongdit told Sudans Post at the venue of the 4th SPLM-ION National Liberation Council meeting in Juba on Thursday.
He said the delay to graduate the unified forces provided for in the revitalized peace agreement is a part of a ploy by the regime of President Salva Kiir Mayardit to undermine the security sector reform saying the even if the arms embargo is to be lifted, the delaying tactics of the regime would remain.
“Evening if the arms embargo is lifted, that will not mean the graduation of forces. Call for arms embargo is just a delaying tactics by President Salva Kiir Mayardit who is best known for not standing for the full implementation of the security arrangements for reasons best known to him,” he said.
