JUBA – South Sudan’s newly-appointed presidential press secretary Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel has welcomed the decision by President Salva Kiir Mayardit to appoint her to the position and said in a statement that she hopes to be the bridge between the president and the public.

Kiir in a decree read out on the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) appointed Adhieu, daughter of SPLA fighter and commander, Cdr. Martin Manyiel, as the successor to Ateny Wek Ateny whom he removed from office less than two months ago.

In a statement, Adhieu welcomed her appointment and said she hopes to be a bridge between the public and the office of the president.

“I would like to thank His Excellency President Kiir, for the trust and confidence he bestowed upon me for the appointment as his Press Secretary. It is an honor and privilege to serve in this important office. I hope, I will be of great service to office of the President, the team and South Sudan as a whole,” she said.

“To my fellow South Sudanese, with this position, I hope to be the bridge between you and the office of the President. My office will be committed and dedicated to serve you to my fullest capacity,” the press secretary further added.

She said that “I hope this will be a new start between the press unit and the citizens of South Sudan.”
