RUMBEK — Deadly fighting in South Sudan’s Lakes state has resumed this morning after an initial fighting killed around 22 people over the weekend, police authorities have said.
Lakes state police spokesman Captain Mabor Makuac said the situation is still fragile as civilians have resorted to the use of machine guns.
“The situation still remained very fragile and even we are receiving information now that the fighting has resumed again this morning in the areas of Cuei-Chok,” the state police spokesman said, according to Eye Radio.
Ethnic violence has escalated this year as per reports by international organizations and many people have reportedly died in separate incidents including in Lakes and Jonglei and Greater Pinot Administrative Areas.
