Mabior Garang meets Kiir in Juba, apologizes for anti-Kiir statements

South Sudan opposition official Mabior Garang De Mabior who returned to the country's capital Juba on Sunday has met President Salva Kiir Mayardit just a day after his return from the Kenyan capital Nairobi, a statement by the presidency said.

JUBA – South Sudan opposition official Mabior Garang De Mabior who returned to the country’s capital Juba on Sunday has met President Salva Kiir Mayardit, three days after his return from the Kenyan capital Nairobi, a statement by the presidency said.

“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit received and held a meeting, with Mabior Garang De Mabior, the son of fallen hero Dr John Garang de Mabior and his accompanying delegation,” the presidency statement said.

According to the South Sudan presidency statement, the son of the SPLM founder Dr. John Garang De Mabior “expressed his heartfelt gratitude to H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the call to come back home.”

The statement said Mabior Garang “apologized to H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the people of South Sudan for any statement that he might have said on the media against H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Nation.”

Following the meeting which was attended by presidential minister Marial Benjamin, deputy foreign minister Deng Dau, and Presidential Guards commander Gen. Lual Wek, Mabior said he will “join hands with the leadership and people of South Sudan to collectively seek ways of contributing to peace and stability for the Nation.”
