JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President and leader of the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has on Tuesday met regional envoys and head of South Sudan’s peace monitoring R-JMEC General Charles Tai Gituai, and discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, according to a statement by Machar’s office.

The implementation of the 2018 peace agreement has seen setbacks with parties to the agreement being accused by the region and international community of lacking political will to fund the implementation of the agreement.

In a statement, Machar’s office said the first vice president met with the envoy of the African Commission chairperson, AU head of mission to South Sudan, the IGAD special envoy, R-JMEC chief and deputy strategy chief at the R-JMEC.

“The First Vice President, H. E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny, today met with a number of Envoys. They included Amb. Prof. Joram M. Biswaro, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission and Head of AU Mission to South Sudan, Dr. Ismail Wais, IGAD Special Envoy, Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai, Deputy Chairperson/Interim Chairperson of R-JMEC and Ambassador Thomson Fontaine, Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy,” the statement seen by Sudans Post.

“The meeting discussed the implementation of the R-ARCISS, with emphasis on the status of the implementation of the security arrangements and graduation of the necessary unified forces in South Sudan,” the statement added.
