JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, the SPLM-IO, led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has urged the leadership of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and the National Security Service (NSS) to apprehend their members working against the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

In a statement on Friday, SPLA-IO spokesman Colonel Lam Paul Gabriel said the main armed opposition group had noted a deteriorating security situation in the capital Juba with some opposition officials being targeted by members of the government security forces which he said is a grave violation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“The SPLA-IO also noted the deteriorating security situation in Juba where SPLM/A –IO officials are being targeted, arrested and even shot at by security Agents of the SPLM -IG. This is not only an intentional violation but also a provocation of the highest order which is intended to derail the peace agreement,” Lam said in a statement dated July 30th.

The statement then urged the leadership of the South Sudan army and the National Security Service (NSS) to apprehend members of their ranks which he said are working in contravention of the implementation of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement that provides for the protection of opposition officials in Juba.

“The command of the SPLA-IO is urging the SSPDF and the National Security to exercise restrain to those agents working against the implementation of the peace agreement,” the statement extended to Sudans Post said.

“The SPLA-IO also calls on the RJMEC, IGAD, Guarantors and the International Community to intervene and investigate these violations of the R-ARCSS,” the strong-worded statement further said.

It then reiterated that the group “remains committed to the Implementation of the Transitional Security Arrangement for a lasting peace in the County.”

Thanks, Comrade Colonel. Lam Paul Gabriel. It is very sorrow, our President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has thought that violations which conducting by his Army elements, spy Agents could serves his illusive interests., there no Country in the world can be ruled by militiament, defected elements who might have selves interest junta government.
However, our government under president has too much sympathizes for the National Congress Party members, udermine SPLM. The National Congress Party members who are hiding under our party SPLM those who are operating in our Country against unity of our Party SPLM, and people of South Sudan. If our president not realizes their purposes and does not willing to implements security arraignment, and depends on junta government then, there will no free movement, development, and no end of killing because of insecurity that would remain.
