JUBA – South Sudan’s former army chief and leader of the holdout opposition South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) General Paul Malong Awan has named a new media official after his spokesman Deng Chapath last month decided to join the government of President Salva Kiir.

In  a statement seen by Sudans Post, Malong said he has named Garang Malual Deng Yaak as the Secretary of Information and Communication of the South Sudan United Front effective with the dead he signed the order.

“I Gen. Paul Malong Awan Anei, Chairman and C-in-C do hereby appoint; Garang Malual Deng Yaak as Secretary of Information and Communication Technology and Spokesperson of SSUF/A,” the statement said.

“This order shall come into force from the day of its signature by the Chairman and Commander in Chief of South Sudan United Front/Army,” he added.

‘Utmost disrespect’

In a statement dated January 23rd, 2022, Chapath said he was leaving the rebel movement because the group’s leader General Paul Malong treated his people with what he calls utmost disrespect.

“Dear Gen, Paul, please accept this letter as notice of resignation from the South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) and as the official spokesperson and Secretary of ICT. I tender this resignation as a way of expressing my dissatisfaction with your actions towards South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) officials,” he said in the statement.

“You treat people with the utmost disrespect. You are nepotistic (sic) in all your actions, and you offered little or no leadership and guidance from inception to this date,” he added.

He said he will “convey my message to the public that I will brief them through different media platforms to share with them my discontentment and the way forward.”
