AWIEL – The Northern Bahr El Ghazal state’s information and communication minister, Zechariah Garang Lual, has refuted claims by members of the state’s legislative assembly regarding their pursuit of delayed allowances.

Garang told journalists in Aweil on Monday that media reports about lawmakers’ ongoing complaints against Governor Tong Aken Ngor concerning the allowances are inaccurate.

He suggests the MPs should have consulted with the state’s finance minister rather than petitioning the governor directly.

“These MPs are acting contrary to the law. Petitioning the governor is not the appropriate method. They should first consult with the state’s Minister of Finance to determine the best way to receive their allowances,” said Garang.

“The governor does not maintain financial records. It is the finance minister who oversees these procedures. As the state’s information minister, I am advising them on the best strategies to secure their rights,” he added.

MPs have recently criticized the governor over delayed allowances. Some have threatened legal action, and others have been dismissed from parliament without receiving their dues.

It remains unclear how the situation will resolve. Some citizens are calling for the governor’s impeachment.
