JUBA, OCTOBER 5, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The acting chairperson of the National Revenue Authority’s Board of Directors Gabriel Isaac Awow has asked the new commissioner-general of the revenue authority Africano Mande to improve the welfare of the staff.
Speaking during a reception ceremony of the new commissioner-general in Juba on Thursday, Awow called on the NRA leadership of Africano Mande to motivate the authority’s staff situation to boost non-oil revenue collection.
“What is important in this area of tax collection is the motivation. You can’t ask your officials to perform well without eating the money if you are not rewarding him or her,” Awow said.
“If you want these people (staff) to perform well then you have to improve their welfare. You motivate them, in whatever you get, give them the priority and it will raise their morale, I am sure that can raise the collection,” he added.
“If you don’t do this, you will not achieve the target, just give them motivation and you will see how they will work in collecting money. Take care of your staff,” he continued.
He also called on the leadership to cooperate in order for them to accomplish the body’s strategic plans.
“You make sure that you are cooperating to raise the bar to meet the target of non-oil revenue collection for the benefit of the people of South Sudan,” he said.
Africano was appointed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit as head of the revenue authority on October 2, to replace Athian Diing Athian who was appointed to the position in June to replace a Tanzanian citizen who has been in the position since last year.
The president also appointed Albino Dak Kur as the new deputy commissioner general of NRA.
