CAIRO – The Nuer Community in Egypt has officially announced the impeachment of its leader, Lam Keah Thiyang Luok.

The decision comes amidst allegations of constitutional violations and a refusal to step down after the expiration of his term.

According to Council Chairman Kom Simon Manyrob, Thiyang’s term legally concluded on December 6, 2022, as per the Nuer Community’s constitution.

“His term in position of Nuer Community came to an end since 6th December 2022,” it charged, citing a specific clause from the group’s governing document.

The specific provision cited was Chapter 5, Article 16, Paragraph 2.

Efforts to facilitate a smooth transition of power were reportedly met with resistance from Thiyang.

The Council Chairman and leaders of four sub-associations engaged in consultations, during which Thiyang reportedly declined to comply, citing what were deemed as unreasonable excuses.

A meeting was convened with the Nuer Community’s General Assembly, where Thiyang allegedly maintained his resistance, further straining relations within the community.

In response to the impasse, the General Assembly, wielding its authority, ordered the impeachment of Thiyang from his position as Chairman of the Nuer Community in Egypt.

The decision was declared effective immediately.

The signatories of the impeachment statement include Council Chairman Kom Simon Manyrob, Domai Hoth Lual, Lou Nuer Community Chairman, Gatmai Manyun Thiyang Luok, Greater Fangak Community Chairman.

Others include Zoal Gatkuoth Kulang, Bentiu Community Chairman, and Goanar Tim Biliew, Eastern Jikang Council Chairman.

There was no immediate reaction from the ousted Community leader.
