OPINION – It is seven months since First Vice President and SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny nominated General Johnson Olony Thabo for Governorship of Upper Nile state. While the people of Upper Nile state continue to live under despicable security and economic conditions, the Kiir-controlled presidency has continued to drag its feeds on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, especially on the appointment of General Johnson Olony under the pretext that the opposition commander is a warmonger.
If it is not because we live in a country where lies are the deciding factors in the presidency, then it would be too ridiculous for President Kiir to reject the appointment of the SPLM-IO nominee Gen. Johnson Olony for gubernatorial post of upper Nile state on the ground that he is a warmonger.
Logically if a person has to be accounted or denied from holding a public office due to the crimes he committed in the country, I believe there will be no justifiable reason for President Salva Kiir to remain as seating President of the country since that day on 15th December 2013 where he ordered discriminate killings of the one ethnicity, most of whom supported him fully during his Presidential candidature in 2010 election, for hidden reason best known to him.
According to the law, it is not wrong to account a person or any public figure who involved in committing atrocities in one way or another for the maintenance of security in the country and avoidance of future crimes which might arise but the question is, could Mr. President be the right person to judge when in fact he has no clean hand? Of course not, therefore he should first check on himself whether he is clean or not before pointing fingers to others.
However the intention of the President is not what he always make publicly as reason to why he should not appoint John Olony but the truth is, he need to sabotage and abrogate the signed accord which is worst and evil intention a responsible President could have.
When it comes to crimes and warmongering in the country, I would say Mr. President Kiir is a leading perpetrator which is responsible to the maximum for many tragic incidents happened in South Sudan in which his argument about the fate of Upper Nile state is not reasonable at all and it can’t be supported whatsoever by sound minded citizen with clear conscience.
