By Major General James Ruach Dual
OPINION – My Fellow Countrymen and women, I am here by greeting you by the name of our Mighty God and by the name of our country, the Republic of South Sudan. I am, therefore, extending my warmest greeting to you across the nation, irrespective of your political affiliations or militarily factions you may have loyalty about. In this memo, I would like to acknowledge the following leaders starting with the Chairman and C-in-C, Gen. Paul Malong Awan of SSUF/A for his diligent work and with his kind heart for this country that he needs all of us to live in peaceful coexistence.
In the same lines of reasoning, I would like to extend my congratulatory message to the Chairman and C-in-C of SPLM/In-Opposition, Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual for being a lifesaver that he had courage to turn the tide that nobody seemed to have a will to do. Also, I would like to acknowledge the Chairman and C-In-C of National Salvation Front, 1st Lt General Thomas Carrillo, former SPLM Secretary General, Mr. Pagan Amum, 1st Lt General Olony Thabo, among the others.
My message to you all comrades is summarized below for only 4-bullet points:
- How to bring the lasting peace in our nation: It is my call that I urge all of you to work for the best interest of our nation and put behind our own individuals’ interests. Our people have been suffering too long in a hope that the current regime in Juba would change. Nevertheless, the suffering of our people has only continued to worsen to the point of no return. For instance, President Kiir Mayardit turned his back to the nation, assuming that everyone and each citizen is doing okay like his own family members in terms of security, foods, shelters, and clothing. The President forgets the fact that his citizens are dying on the daily basis because of hungers, traumatization, diseases, and useless wars and absent of security. For this reason, I have called upon you all to do everything in your power in order to alleviate the lives of our people from this mad-made misery, imposed on us by heartless people, who pretended to be our leaders. We can do this by working together with one voice and one objective even though we have different factions and political affiliations.
- To put an end the disease of tribalistic mindsets, which is now being used as a bargaining chip so that one can gain materialistic wealth. We have learned that some greedy politicians used their tribes as shield in order to ransack the nation for their own instance gratification and well-being of their own families’ financial future. We have all learned that when these greedy politicians satisfied their hungers for power and resources, they would turn their backs to their own tribes to whom lives were put in jeopardy. For example, Dr. Riek Machar had done this several times to only loot the country’s resources at the expense of Nuer People. He did this in 1991 to ascend himself to power by persuading the Nuer tribe that they were not treated in the same way other tribes were treated in South Sudan. He, therefore, convinced them to fight on his behalf so that there would be a Nuer leader who was Riek Machar himself. After he was defeated in the battlefield by the late Chairman, Dr. John Garang de Mabior, Riek fled to Khartoum by signing a fake peace with Jallaba known as the Khartoum Peace Agreement in 1997, leaving a trail of deaths and destructions behind him in the South Sudan. While there, he forgot the Nuer and began to live a luxury life in the Capital, Khartoum. As a short-lived fake agreement, his power dissolved in the thin air quickly and left his commanders and soldiers in the hands of Khartoum while running back to the same Dr. John Garang de Mabior of the SPLM to whom he was trying to destroy. He, therefore, did this again in 2013 to President Kiir Mayardit, which caused a catastrophic destruction in our nation ever since. In the real world, people like Riek Machar could not be in the leadership position, as opposed to being put on trial for the war crime and crime against the humanity he committed against us several times in our nation history.
- I have also called the civil society and Faith- based organizations, as well as youth of our nation to stand with those who would bring the needed change in our nation. As you have seen from the preceding paragraph, Dr. Riek Machar is not alternative to president Salva Kiir Mayardit in terms of presidency. If he does by accident, our nation would be just another Rwanda because this guy knows only how to enslave other people. You are all aware that he enslaved the Nuer people for almost 40 years by fighting useless wars where he only enriched his family and relatives. The appointment of people to key government positions is the self-evidence that he only fought for his own belly and not a nation. Secondly, his failure to even equip his own movements to fight against his alleged enemies is self-evident that this guy could not run a stable government. Similarly, Kiir’s government has failed and so did his partner in crime, Dr. Riek Machar in the bush. Who will bring the needed change then? In the last bullet point, we suggested that it is all of us by proposing the followings:
- We need an inclusive government, which will protect lives and properties. A government that will not be run on the tribal basis, a government that will respect its all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, culture, or religious backgrounds, a government that will grant the bills of rights, a government that will have due process of laws . At this point in time, we have proposed that we only have the abovementioned leaders to bring the needed change. We, therefore, urge our youth across the nation to join the aforementioned leaders in a great number so that together we can bring the needed change by retiring the President Kiir Mayardit and his partner in crime, Dr. Riek Machar. The two men are no longer good to lead our country, nothing more and nothing less.
