OPINION – As the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity in South Sudan is nearly reaching its final stages, its seemingly clear that the leader of the National Democratic Movement Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin is technically left out in the government structures. Dr. Akol is the leader of National Democratic Movement (NDM), which is also a member of the South Sudan political collision, known as “South Sudan Oppositions Allies” (SSOA).He is a prominent dignitary in the Revitalized Peace Agreement signed in 2018.
He is also the only political opposition whose objectives and goals are clear and in favor of all the citizens of South Sudan. He is fighting for political reforms that aim in bringing all South Sudanese together as one nation with one national interest. His political motives He wants democracy to prevail in South Sudan. He is fighting for equal rights for all South Sudanese, regardless of tribes, religion, gender or doctrine. He is a man of humanity and justice for all. Dr. Lam Akol want a viable peace, liberty, equality, and freedom for all.
He is the man who should not be isolated if South Sudan was ready for a lasting peace. However, as the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government is nearing to its implementation, its apparently clear that some people from IG and few calibrators from the members of SSOA are working so hard in making sure that Dr. Lam of NDM is isolated from participating in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity.
How do we know that this is done intentionally?
As we are keenly following all the political activities on South Sudan government, all of us are aware that all the executive portfolios of the government had been finalized with all ministerial positions appointed. Leaving us with Legislative Assembly to finish the whole process of government formation. Nevertheless, there are no signs indicating that Dr. Lam Akol is being included in the Revitalized Transitional Government in any position of decision-making portfolio. This leave us with many questions why things are leaning that way?
The answer simple, precise and clear. Its because of ‘fear of democracy’ from both the IG and calibrators. Government fear that if Dr. Lam is included in Transitional Government of National Unity, he will add more weight to the lonely heavy weight opposition, the IO in the decision making process. Whereas, the calibrators in the allies fear the present of Dr. Lam because he will be a threat to their fragile political motives of opposition against the government.
Therefore, the two groups tactically maneuvered out Dr. Lam to avoid strong criticism from Dr. Lam. Off cause Dr. Lam is a strong opposition who is extremely serious about making sure that changes in political space in South Sudan is fully achieved. As a result, the government is seriously worrying about. Consequently, he is being isolated because of fear and favor for the calibrators bro have a chance to manipulate the peace agreement in favor of government.
In the other hand, it help the government in exploiting all the agreed mechanisms of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in process. Because those calibrators do not have any objectives of goals for democratic changes that Dr. Lam is campaigning for. They are just opportunists whose goals are to secure public offices and sits there waiting for God to come and solve the problems that the people of South Sudan are facing in the hand of notorious IG regime.
In summary, Dr. Lam Akol must be included in the Transitional Government of National Unity if peace is to prevail in South Sudan. Dr. Lam is notable political figure in South Sudan and an imminent politician with outstanding goals and objectives that does not divides the country. He is fighting a political war in a moderate ways that does not encourage tribalism amongst the people of South Sudan. Therefore, isolating him in the political system in South Sudan means denying the right of the majority of South Sudanese who does not encourage rebellion against the government but need a political changes without bloodshed.
