OPINION – Brigadier General Manasa Machar Bol Yai is an intelligent, experienced, and high achieving young man who has achieved success in the early stages of his career. Gen. Machar is a man committed to the growth and development in South Sudan.

Manasa Machar is a war hero and former Red Army who participated in the liberation of South Sudan. As one of the thousands of young men who either never had the opportunity to go to school or had to drop out of schools to join the liberation struggle and went through untold trauma and misery in the fight for freedom and dignity, Gen. Machar emerged victoriously.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit must reform the Internal Security Bureau through young and energetic men like General Manasa Machar. Gen. Manasa Machar, if given a chance, will reform the security sector and bring fresh new ideas that will help promote peace and development in South Sudan.

Gen. Manasa is the Director of Security and Coordination in the Ministry of Petroleum. He has been instrumental in ensuring smooth oil operations and has served five Ministers of Petroleum diligently and with integrity. He has served Hon. Stephen Dhieu Dau, Hon. Dak Diop Bichok, Hon. Ezekiel Lol Gakouth, Hon. Awow Daniel Chuang, and Hon. Puot Kang Chol.

Gen. Manasa has overseen consistent production by DPOC, a resumption by GPOC, and currently the resumption of SPOC. Manasa was the mastermind of the Juba-Bor-Malakal oil scheme initiative and supported Benjamin Bol Mel and Simon Akuie Deng and ensured they received cargos for road development. When companies began taking GoSS to court over oil debts, Gen. Manasa pushed the Ministry to payoff Sahara Group debts by ensuring they received their cargos on time. Sahara Group was given cargoes to pay back loans taken out by Hon. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth during the glorious reign of the now-defunct SPLM/A-IO led by General Taban Deng Gai.

Gen. Manasa is an active member of the Twic Mayardit Community and has supported sons and daughters of Twic with employment, financial assistance, scholarships, and mentorship. Twic Mayardit is a marginalized community in the Gorial and Tonj dominated Warrap State. Gen. Manasa has supported Twic Mayardit leaders in attaining critical positions of power and influence. He was instrumental in supporting the appointment of Hon. Bona Panek as the Governor of Warrap and Eng. Bol Ring’s appointment as Managing Director of NILEPET. Gen. Manasa works diligently behind the scenes to support sons and daughters of Twic Mayardit and Greater Warrap State to be appointed to critical state positions.

In additional political and socially prowess, Gen. Manasa is an accomplished entrepreneur guiding the successes of companies such as Speed Insurance and Transco Energy Limited. Transco Energy Limited is an oilfield supplier with significant service contracts with DPOC, GPOC and is actively involved in SPOC Production Resumption.

Gen. Manasa graduated from the University of South Africa and has plenty of experience and training in leadership, intelligence, energy, and philosophy. South Sudan will grow and prosper if people like General Manasa Machar are given opportunities to lead and implement their vision. Young people like Gen. Manasa Machar Bol are the future of this country and should be empowered for South Sudan to reach great heights as a nation.
